los valientes (2020-2021)
When boys and girls who arrived alone in Spain as minors turn 18, the authorities are no longer obligated to care for them. Additionally, public housing resources are insufficient, and obtaining a permit to live and work is not easy. As a result, many young people end up on the streets in very difficult situations, far from their families, whom they often miss and rely on. These circumstances significantly impact their physical and mental health and can be disastrous for their future.
Despite this, these boys and girls try to support each other, build connections, and seek what any other person their age would want: friendship, love, fun, meeting new people, and trying new things. At the same time, they face the anxiety and uncertainty of not knowing how to build a decent life in a country that is unfamiliar to them.
This is the visual story of some of the 90 migrants who, in 2020, were forced to survive on the streets or occupy houses and apartments in Tarragona and other surrounding towns in the Catalonia region of Spain.
This work was exhibited in 2022 at Nau Bostik in Barcelona, Spain.

Cuando los chicos y chicas que llegaron solos a España siendo menores cumplen 18 años, las autoridades ya no están obligadas a hacerse cargo de ellos. Además, los recursos de vivienda pública son insuficientes y obtener un permiso de residencia y trabajo no es fácil. Como resultado, muchos jóvenes acaban en la calle en situaciones muy difíciles, lejos de sus familias, a quienes a menudo extrañan y de quienes dependen emocionalmente. Estas circunstancias afectan gravemente su salud física y mental, y pueden ser desastrosas para su futuro.
A pesar de ello, estos chicos y chicas intentan apoyarse entre sí, crear vínculos y buscar lo que cualquier otra persona de su edad desearía: amistad, amor, diversión, conocer gente nueva y experimentar cosas nuevas. Al mismo tiempo, enfrentan la ansiedad y la incertidumbre de no saber cómo construir una vida digna en un país que les resulta ajeno.
Esta es la historia visual de algunos de los 90 migrantes que, en 2020, se vieron obligados a sobrevivir en las calles o a ocupar casas y pisos en Tarragona y otros municipios cercanos de la región catalana de España.
Este trabajo fue exhibido en 2022 en Nau Bostik, en Barcelona, España.
